Grab a Tissue…
This is one of the best stories I’ve heard in awhile, and it involves one of our teams in Independence, Iowa. Read on, but before you do, you may want to grab a tissue. This one’s a bit of a tearjerker!
On a rainy afternoon recently, a group of children, soaking wet and unaccompanied by an adult, wandered into a Pizza Hut restaurant to use the bathroom. They had been walking around the community for quite some time, hadn’t eaten for at least two days and were not wearing shoes. They were homeless.
While there are many other businesses that may have turned the group of children away, our people did not. They allowed the children to stay, invited them into the building, and through a series of events, asked the children to sit down and then fed them. The children were ravenous, and our generous staff allowed them to sit and fill their bellies.
While our people were taking care of the children’s basic needs, the Iowa Department of Human Services was able to work with local law enforcement to find a safe and secure place for the children to go. Thanks to our staff’s kindness and attention, the child welfare process had a chance to work quickly to ensure the group had a warm home and the promise of food for days to come.
The Iowa Department of Human Services said that our people went above and beyond to make sure these children were taken care of in a time of crisis – for our people, however, this was just the right thing to do.
We’re so proud of our employees’ kindness, compassion and generosity. It’s just one great example, but this story just goes to show you – NPC truly does have the BEST people!
