Accounting Employee Takes Oath of Citizenship
Linda Schneider, a utility specialist working in the accounting department at our Pittsburg, Kansas, office, was recently recognized by her coworkers for becoming a United States citizen!
Linda was born and grew up in Munich, Germany.Β In 1975, she traveled to California for a fourteen-day excursion, and though it would be several decades later that she decided to move, it was on this trip that Linda fell in love with the beauty of the United States. The mountains and the ocean attracted Linda so much that she actually refused to go home when returning to the Los Angeles Airport! Eventually, she made her return to Germany, but throughout the ensuing years, she never forgot the people nor the pull to America.
In 1996, as an event manager at a theme park in Germany, Linda was tasked with studying American life to establish the American history show there. The show had to depict American history accurately, and it gave her daily contact with the American Flag and the National Anthem. The show received recognition by the U.S. Ambassador in Munich, andΒ Linda was inspired to one day replace the project with daily life in the United States. Lindaβs daughter, Stefanie, also worked at the theme park, and it was there that Stefanie met her husband, a U.S. Army serviceman. Stephanie and Josh married in 2006, and Linda came to the U.S. again to visit the next year. She stayed for three months, but again, returned to Germany to resume life there.
In 2008, Linda, an accomplished horse trainer, received her first contract training horses on an Arizona ranch, and she was thrilled to make the trip back to the U.S. (And, of course, to see her daughter, son-in-law and new grandson!) She returned to the same ranch in 2011 and received more great news β Stephanie was expecting Lindaβs second grandchild. But now with two children, Stefanie wanted her mother around to help!
Following her heart, Linda made the emotional decision to move to the United States. Selling her ranch and horses in Germany, Linda came to Kansas with 36 boxes of personal belongings and her dog, Tody. A day after arriving in the United States in 2011, Linda watched her daughter Stefanie take the Oath of Citizenship. The rest of Lindaβs path was set on that day!
In November of 2017, Linda applied for citizenship and her invitation was received in March of 2018. Throughout the waiting period, Linda fulfilled the requirements of citizenship, something she had unknowingly been preparing for her entire lifeΒ β knowing the history of the U.S., speaking and understanding the English language, and writing in a understandable manner. Linda met each requirement with 100%. After all, she says, she had been living an American life on German soil! When asked at the government office when Linda wanted to become a citizen, she replied βat your earliest convenience!β which brought laughter to the sponsoring agent. But on May 17, 2018, Linda Schneiderβs dream came true in Lawrence, Kansas, as she took her own Oath to be a United States Citizen.
The NPC accounting team knew what a special day it was for Linda, so Seirra Roberts planned a great celebration that included decorating Linda’s office as well as arranging a breakfast and snack day for the new citizen. Linda was greeted that morning as she came to work by a group of NPC Family members who were so proud of their co-worker!
Linda said, βToday was an overwhelming day. But, I am confident I did the right thing when I can walk into my employer and also see my family.β
Linda was full of happiness coming to work as an American citizen, and that should be celebrated!
Congratulations on your citizenship Linda! We’re lucky to have you!
