Ed’s Tour de Adoption Stops at Shawnee Mission, Kansas, Store
From manager trainee to franchisee, Ed Anderson has worked for Wendy’s for more than 35 years. On Wednesday, July 27, he took his commitment to Wendy’s to a whole new level and set off on a bicycle ride across America from Virginia Beach to San Diego.
Anderson is riding in an effort to raise $1 million for the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption in hopes of helping the 107,000 children in foster care waiting to be adopted.
“After more than three decades with the organization, I am compelled to honor and recognize the legacy of Dave Thomas, who not only taught me everything about running a successful business, but who also created this wonderful foundation,” Anderson said. “My personal trek is to raise critical dollars needed to move foster children into loving and permanent homes.”
The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption is a national nonprofit public charity dedicated exclusively to finding permanent homes for the more than 130,000 children waiting in North America’s foster care systems. Created by Wendy’s founder Dave Thomas who was adopted, the Foundation implements evidence-based, results-driven national service programs, foster care adoption awareness campaigns and innovative grant-making.
NPC and The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption came together on Wednesday, August 31 at the Wendy’s restaurant in Shawnee Mission, Kansas, to cheer on Ed as he passes through town. KRBZ “The Buzz” was also on site to help host the event.
At the event, NPC presented Ed Anderson with a donation — a check for $5,000 to support the DTFA.
Anderson’s 4,000-mile journey is stopping at nearly 20 Wendy’s locations coast-to-coast along the way, and he is hoping to shine light on the cause Thomas created to help children waiting to be adopted from foster care.
