Wendy’s Cares: National Foster Care Month 2019
It’s National Foster Care Month, and we want to shine a spotlight on the Wendy’s charitable foundation of choice: the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption (DTFA).
Each year, over 20,000 young adults will age out of the foster system without finding a family of their own. And with the stigma that foster care carries, these young adults often have a hard time navigating through the challenges of life.
Adopted as a baby, Dave Thomas wanted to make sure each child who was placed in foster care could find a forever home. That’s why the DTFA was founded in 1992. Since establishing a child focused adoption model, more than 8,000 children who would usually be overlooked or dismissed as too difficult to adopt have been able to find families.
Frosty Key Tags and Boo! Books are an important part of the DTFA’s mission to provide loving homes to children in foster care. These small purchases make a big impact. A portion of each sale directly benefits programs that support foster care kids. But that’s not the only option to support the DTFA. From their store to direct donations, check out ways to give here!
It is the DTFA’s mission to not only keep refining their model to get as many kids adopted as possible, but to end the stigma that follows foster care. We can do this by sharing stories and opening up a conversation about adoption. Have a story to share? Tweet @wendys to join the conversation!
