Words of a Recently Retired Pizza Hut RGM
So many people want to be a general manager,
Without really considering what that job is.
It is long, hard hours, mind numbing, fast paced, back breaking, constantly teaching, coaching, multitasking, thinking on your feet, problem solving.
It is dealing with upset customers with a smile on your face while you’re getting screamed at.
You, in a sense, are a therapist, a parent, a disciplinarian,
Sometimes you have to be the bad guy, but you also get to be the good guy.
You, at times, have to be a plumber, an electrician, a gardener, a trash collector, a window cleaner, a janitor.
You have paper work galore, you live HQSC/FSCC, 24/7.
You have labor to run, under 30 to control, projections to hit.
You are constantly training, coaching, correcting, teaching,
Your mind goes 100 miles an hour,
Even when your day is done, you are thinking, “what can I do tomorrow to make it better.”
You are bone weary tired, your feet ache, your back hurts at the end of the day.
But when you walk out that door at the end of the day, and you turn and look back, and you stop and watch your team doing their jobs with a smile,
When you see the long hours you have invested in action,
When you see that customer walk out the door with a smile on their face and you know they are going to go home and sit around their table with their family and laugh and have a wonderful night.
Your heart swells with pride and you think to yourself, “this is what it is all about.”
It is not about a title, its not about a position, its not about a bigger check.
This is what being a general manager is all about, it is the feeling of accomplishment, the pride of your team, the smile of a customer, the feeling of a job well done.
And it is worth it all.
True True

Nice.
That is pretty accurate information. Only thing i would add is that being an RGM in certain area can be extremely stressful and you can be made to run your store even if you are supposed to be on medical leave.
that is what is all about it. and i will do it all over again. LOVE MY WENDYS
Well said.I wish every GM reads this.
In short,This position is not a privilege. It is responsibility.
I remember what it felt like when you got your store to top operating form, with the awesome team you had built. Friday nights flew by and they were FUN. It was hard work, but a lot of fun and it was very rewarding. Our RGMs rock!
Well said – I have enjoyed my time as an RGM with NPC – only 21 more years to go and the count down begins !
Very well put. This statement should be added to the online job description so as to reveal the expectations of our jobs.
